Covid Chronicles: Part 20

From January 3-13, the girls loved staying with Grandma Barbara and visiting Gran and their cousin Harper. Hadley was tracked-out from school, and Savannah did her remote learning from 8:30-3:00 daily at Grandma's house.

Grandma Barbara took the girls to get haircuts and shopping for new clothes.

Grandma Barbara brought the girls home on January 13. Hadley loved playing Go Fish and Old Maid with Grandma Barbara.

When the girls and I visited a local children's museum in December, a professional photographer took some photos of the girls to promote the museum. Well, a couple weeks ago, the girls showed up on a local Facebook page!

Hadley got her ears pierced when she was 4 months old. However, I removed them when Hadley was two years old because she took out the earrings several times a day and even caused her ears to bleed many times when she took them out. Well, recently Hadley asked me to put in donut earrings, and we discovered that her ear holes are still open!

The girls and I hiked and played at the playground in our neighborhood:

In mid-December, I set a goal to help Hadley learn to read while she was tracked-out from school for five weeks. I purchased the Sight Word Readers boxed set with 25 books that reinforced 50 sight words. Each book focused on two sight words, had 8 pages, and one sentence on each page. During her track-out, Hadley read 3-6 books most days to me or Grandma Barbara. In five weeks, Hadley mastered 50 sight words, improved her reading confidence and fluency, and graduated to another set of sight word books that has two sentences on each page. I'm so proud of Hadley!

Covid Chronicles: Part 19

Below are some memories from our staycation during our Christmas break from school.

When we stayed with Grandma Barbara at Christmas, my niece Harper got some press-on nails from Dollar General. Unfortunately, nail glue didn't come in the box, so Savannah taped the nails on Harper's fingers. Haha!

Savannah's Perler bead creations are so creative and complex!

For Christmas, one of my students gave me a gift card to a local bookstore. The girls enjoyed picking out a new book to read at home.

While we were traveling, Hadley wrote sentences on her dry erase board:
"I love Mom. I love Dad. I love dogs. I love cats."

The girls built a blanket fort in our living room.

Hadley lost a tooth!

Hadley lost her second tooth! One of Hadley's bottom teeth started wiggling a couple days ago, and she pulled it out today. Hadley is so excited to put her tooth under her pillow and get $5 from the tooth fairy tomorrow. (When Hadley lost her first tooth on December 6, Tal washed it down the drain. Hadley was so bummed that she couldn't put her tooth under her pillow for the tooth fairy.)

Myrtle Beach

During the long holiday weekend, our family escaped to Myrtle Beach, SC for a couple days. We stayed at South Bay Inn and Suites. It was an oceanfront hotel with an indoor water park that had a large heated pool, three hot tubs, two water slides, and a lazy river. It was a fun winter getaway!

On the way to Myrtle Beach, Hadley put her three buddies in her carrier.

Smith Creek Trail

Our family hiked 1.8 miles on the Smith Creek Trail with Grandma Barbara. We enjoyed getting some fresh air and exercise...and then we picked up dinner on our way home!
