In the spring, the City of Raleigh planted five acres of sunflowers in downtown Raleigh. The sunflowers bloom during the first two weeks in July. Then, they are harvested and used for biodiesel fuel.
When we were there, the sunflower field, which was free and open to the public, was very crowded with people and a little bit muddy from all of the rain earlier in the day...but still a colorful and beautiful sight in the center of our city.
