Friends Beach Weekend: Part 4 (Oak Island Lighthouse and Caswell Beach)

On Sunday, August 19, the five of us woke up early, ate breakfast at our hotel, and then drove 15 minutes to Oak Island Lighthouse and Caswell Beach.

Tyson (3), Amanda, Savannah (9), Rachel, and Hadley (3)

Of the seven lighthouses along the coast of NC, the Oak Island Lighthouse is the least attractive. The lighthouse is tall and skinny and resembles a smoke stack with gray and black stripes.

Since it was Sunday, the lighthouse was closed for climbing, but we enjoyed seeing the lighthouse up close. Over the last two weeks, the girls and I have visited 3 out of 7 lighthouses along the coast of NC: Oak Island, Old Baldy, and Cape Lookout.

After we visited the lighthouse, the five of us walked across the street to Caswell Beach:

Although it was a gloomy morning on Caswell Beach, the kids enjoyed playing in the sand, collecting shells, and dipping their feet in the water before we drove home!

A sea turtle crawled onto the beach at night and buried her eggs in the sand. The area was roped off to protect the nesting sea turtles:

To remember our trip, Savannah wrote our names in the sand:
